The Power of Community: Why Getting Involved Matters
Eleonore Guité, Project Agent, Culture and Heritage, CASE-MCQ
Have you ever had one of those days where a simple chat with a neighbor or a friendly wave from someone at the park instantly lifted your mood? That’s the magic of community. It’s in those little moments—sharing stories, laughing together, offering a helping hand—that we feel a sense of belonging. And honestly? That’s exactly what makes our work at CASE so special.
Every week, I have the privilege of organizing and taking part in activities that bring people together. Whether it’s a book club that sparks thoughtful conversations, a film club that introduces new perspectives, or a cultural event that celebrates our diversity, these moments remind me why community engagement matters so much. It’s not just about the events themselves—it’s about the friendships that form, the confidence that grows, and the joy of feeling connected.
Take our book club, for example. It’s been such a wonderful space for lively discussions and shared discoveries. Whether we’re diving into a classic novel or exploring something contemporary, there’s something truly special about coming together to share our thoughts and insights. Literature has this unique way of connecting us, helping us see the world through different lenses.
Then there’s our film club—another fantastic way to engage. We watch thought-provoking movies and gather afterward to discuss themes, storytelling, and cultural impact. It’s relaxed, enjoyable, and a great way to deepen our understanding of different narratives while appreciating cinema together.
One of my favorite moments each month is reading to the children at Drummondville Elementary School. There’s nothing quite like watching young minds light up with curiosity and excitement as they listen to a story. Encouraging a love of reading at an early age helps build confidence, imagination, and a lifelong appreciation for books. It’s such a simple yet meaningful way to support the next generation and strengthen our community.
And, of course, I can’t forget the incredible concerts at St. George’s Church! These performances bring beautiful live music to our community, creating an uplifting atmosphere where people can gather and experience the arts together. Whether it’s classical, jazz, or contemporary music, there’s something for everyone—and it’s amazing to see how music has the power to bring people closer.
At the heart of it all, community engagement is about making space for connection and ensuring everyone feels like they belong. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as attending a local event, joining a group, or even just taking a moment to introduce yourself to someone new. Small actions truly make a big difference.
So, if you haven’t yet, I invite you to get involved! Come to an event, join a conversation, or share your ideas with us. CASE is here for you, and together, we make our community stronger—one connection at a time.
