Essay by Roger Narbonne
Do you think that being bilingual can be a great advantage? Well, being bilingual can be extraordinary! It can make it easier to find jobs and friends, form relationships, and ease travelling. It can also be less difficult to find books, even facilitate playing video games, and important for understanding music lyrics! Remember that being bilingual does not only mean that you can speak only French and English; it can be whatever two languages that exist in the world, like Italian and Mandarin, Spanish and Russian (these are only examples).
Finding fantastic jobs can change your future. Nowadays, a lot of jobs prefer that their workers are bilingual. Did you know that in Canada about sixty-two percent of employers prefer to choose bilingual over unilingual people for their jobs? Some jobs oblige their workers to be bilingual, like tourism industries, because they need to talk to people from all over the world.
Did you know that being bilingual can help to get friends and relationships? If you speak only one language, like Ukrainian for example, you will only speak to Ukrainian-speaking people. But if you speak Ukrainian and Spanish, you will be able to talk to Ukrainian and Spanish speaking people. The more people you speak to and meet in life, the more choices for partners in life you will have. For example, my dad speaks French and English; before he only spoke French, but he learned to speak English. My mom speaks English. When they met my dad was bilingual so he could speak to my mom. Since they could talk together, they became aware of their similarities. After that, they became a couple and are having a happy life, while my mom has learned to speak French over the years because of my dad.
People love to travel to various places across the world. I am making this point because being bilingual while traveling can be an immense help. If you speak two languages, take Spanish and Mandarin, you can travel to countries where those languages are spoken, such as Mexico, Spain, China, Indonesia, and other countries.
Being bilingual can facilitate finding books and understanding video games or music lyrics! Books are not always printed in every single language in the world. If you are bilingual, there will be a lot more interesting books to read and learn from. Sometimes books have been translated to the only language you can read, but it can be massively more expensive to cover translation fees. These days, a lot of people love to listen to music. But not even one song is translated to other languages because the beat would not work. If you are bilingual, more songs that you understand will be available for you. Most songs have meanings in them. How could you understand the meaning if you do not know the song's language? You could even miss an important message. Everybody enjoys playing video games! But sometimes it can be challenging because you do not understand the tricks, because they are not written in your language. Normally there are language choices, but sometimes your only language is not available. If you are bilingual, one of your languages may be available; if you speak two languages, you will master the game soon.
In conclusion, being bilingual is super advantageous because more jobs will be open to you, and friends and relationships will be easier to find, because you will have spoken to more people than if you were unilingual. Also, it can be less complicated to find books that you wish to read because they might be available, or cheaper, in one of your two languages. It can help you understand music lyrics. Video games will be trouble-free because you will be able to understand the tricks and instructions. And finally, travelling will be effortless because you will understand what people are saying. Thank you for reading my essay and I hope that you now have a better opinion about bilingualism.
